How this @PonderMonster was created.

As a long time fan of street art, I had something happen to me last year that got my gears spinning. Of course, it all started with watching Exit Through the Gift Shop... As a creative type, and a filmmaker, I was naturally inspired to do something to help others view the world a bit differently. I'm a pretty big wimp when it comes to destruction of property for art, as much as I really enjoying other artists' work, I just don't have it in me to graffiti up a big wall with a possibility that it can get me in trouble. I suppose that's part of the thrill of most street art, but something happened to me on a recent trip to Los Angeles that made me come up with an idea that both satisfies putting out art, and not destroying property.

The picture about is a good place to start. That's me. Yep, my form of street art permits me to show my face, although it won't happen very often because pictures of myself aren't my favorite. This is a picture taken next to quite possibly my favorite street artist, @mrramano. He is from LA and, much like myself, a huge fan of Marilyn Monroe. Traveling out there for a film project of my own, I stayed at a hotel in Hollywood where this magnificent piece was pasted up just outside my hotel. Following him on instagram for a while, I just simply thrilled to stumble upon his work so soon. Quickly I snapped this pic and immediately posted it up on instagram. He acknowledged the photo and it made my day. I soon found out that he was doing a sort of artwork scavenger hunt around the LA area. Well, the moons aligned or something, because the next morning he posted a photo of a piece of art that said "Rise and find." Noticing that it had only been 10 minutes since it was posted I figured there might be a chance. I examined the photo and saw the name of a restaurant in the distance, looked it up, and BAM it was 2 blocks away! Check it:

I grabbed my skateboard, flew out the door, blasted down the walk of fame, busted a right down the next street, cruised down and off the sidewalk and saw the corner of the painting sticking out from the side of the pole. I jumped off the curb and crossed the street, gently removed the picture from the pole, looked around and snapped this selfie:

Finding this wonderful piece of art made my day, my week, my year and inspired me to do this future project. The happiness I experienced during this little treasure hunt stuck with me for so long, and eventually had to give this feeling back to others. It was only recently that the idea came into full fruition. Thinking about what could be made easy, simple and fun, rainbows popped into my head. Took a trip to the art store looking for something to paint on, and came across these little 5"x5" canvases and realized how perfect they were. Decided right then and there that 5 of each color of the rainbow would be made. keep one for myself, keep one to possibly sell with the whole collection later, and 3 to give to people willing to accept these little pieces of love.

So, what would each color represent? Immediately I thought of emotions and looking into what each color represented. RED what easy and obvious, and the perfect emotion to kick off this whole collection, LOVE. It makes the world go round, drives people to do things for others, and is the whole feeling that needs to be portrayed within this entire project.

Here is a picture of the first RED of the LOVE series in the #PONDERMONSTERRAINBOWCOLLECTION:

The extra super mega special thing that goes along with each painting found is a letter. The letter explains that the painting found is for anyone and what the it is exactly that you found. It congratulates the finder, and encourages to share their love on instagram with the rest of the world. It's placed in the back of the painting with a tiny handmade envelope:

Well, that's it for now. Hopefully you now know why and how this all got started. If you ever have any question or comments, please feel free to reach out. Until next time, hooray art and happy hunting!

P.S. Here is a video that basically explains everything written... if you hate reading as much as I do. Enjoy!
